Over a the Nnooo booth at PAX East, I got to play Cubemen 2 for Wii U. It's a game that is already out on several platforms – PC, Mac, and mobile. The cool thing about it is that it will be cross-platform multiplayer with all other versions. Players will also benefit from the 4,000+ user-generated levels that have already been created from the other platforms.
Cubemen 2 is a tower-defense game that has you placing cube-shaped men on a grid in order to defend yourself from attacks. The basic idea is as simple as they come, but it gets cool when you begin leveling up your Cubemen. Also, you will need to spin, slide, and zoom around your battle area, since enemies are coming from all around you. This requires some quick thinking and movement.
Everything seems to take place on the Gamepad's touch screen, so this is probably not going to be a game you will play solely on your TV. In addition to moving around with the analog stick, you are required to use the touch-screen to place and upgrade your Cubemen.
In the end, I had fun. However, it is important to note that I am not a huge tower-defence fan. A good idea would probably be to check out the existing versions of the game, get a feel for it, and let that dictate whether you want to get it on Wii U when it releases.
Cubemen 2 is set to release this year on the Wii U eShop. For more information, check out their website at http://www.nnooo.com/software/cubemen2.
